-Jim & Ron

**************************

RON
started writing country songs in his twenties. Now at the tender age of 66, he writes about life's ups and downs (with the encouragement of his wife Joan of 43 years by his side...). Ron manages to put on paper what a lot of us feel but only a select few manage to express. In the seventies Ron went to the Lone Star Ranch in Merrimack NH almost every Sunday. There he met one of his longtime idols, singer Sonny James of 'Young Love' fame. They talked about  song writing and Sonny told Ron to always try and tell a story that someone may be able to relate to.

At an October 2006 George Jones concert in Concord NH , Ron went backstage to meet his idol and showed Mr. Jones the lyrics to a song called 'An Old Dog Like Me' that he wrote specifically with George in mind. Mr. Jones liked them so much, he offered to record the song. That night Ron sat in his car at 3am and sang the vocals to 'An Old Dog...' into a cassette player and sent the tape to Mr. Jones' manager as requested. Sadly, two years later, Ron received an e-mail from Mr. Jones' management stating that Mr. Jones will not be recording 'An Old Dog' (but we still hope...;>).

Down but not out, fate stepped in and introduced a self-taught song writing multi-instrumentalist named Jim Lassiter to Ron and together, breathed new life into 'An Old Dog...'.

JIM grew up listening to his father James and older brother Larry playing traditional Country & Western songs on guitar. There were a lot of family gatherings and outdoor cookouts at the old house in Dunstable MA over the years where uncles, aunts, cousins, neighbors & friends would come over and everyone would sing along with Larry's C&W band which always had at least two cousins and old family friends as members. J

im wrote his first C&W song on guitar when he was 15 years old called 'The Big Red Barn'. He expanded his musical abilities over the years in various Country, Rock & Top40/Wedding bands while continuing to write his own songs. A self-taught singer & guitarist, Jim also plays bass & drums out of necessity because he could never find other musicians to play on his home recordings when he needed them. Jim's also been dabbling lately with a synth, enabling him to include his love of orchestral sounds into his newer works.

In addition to his C&W songs, other 'styles' include hard & soft rock, jazz influenced pieces & comedic endeavors. He hates labeling his stuff and just calls it music and prefers to be called a songwriter first and musician second.

Two years of work culminated in a 2007 production of a wonderfully funny family friendly musical stage-play comedy called "The Tavern & The Storyteller" that he wrote for his kids high school drama club. It received standing ovations every night of it's 3 night performance.

You can read the Script (a read only PDF), view Set Pics of the construction & finished set and lighted scale model, watch various Video Clips & listen to the Song Demos on the Tavern website. Two sequels are slowly being worked on - slowly because Jim has a very bad back and has had 3 operations on his spine to date.

In the spring/summer of 2009, Jim met Ron, a local lyricist he's unknowingly lived down the street from for many years. Jim & Ron hit it off immediately and Jim was amazed at Ron's lyrical ability and rough 'down-home' singing voice which reminded him of those wonderful family cookouts.
